La Historia
Two friends met in London in 2013, Henry Hudson (English) and Fernando Angeles (Mexican). We visited Tulum together in 2016, took a risk, and began the journey to create a home base that is now Botånica Tulum. We came from very different backgrounds, but united in our commitment to using local, organic, sustainable materials whenever possible, we worked slowly towards the creation of a unique and welcoming collaborative space.
A plot of land part of the Yucatán jungle was purchased. Then, with help from our architect friends and together with our own ideas, a building plan was formulated. We wanted to embrace the natural landscape and encompass all the existing trees, allowing them to extend through the new walls and roofs. Roof space was designed to house a large area of solar panels. Volcanic rocks were recycled to use as a floor for the outside areas and local natural slate for the swimming pool.
The residence offers air-conditioned studio rooms with a private bathroom, hostel style beds, free Starlink WiFi, a bar, and a Temazcal sweat lodge in the garden. Centered around an open-air kitchen and a cenote style pool, Botånica is a hybrid guesthouse and cultural hub devoted to exploring the mindful inspirations of the Yucatán.
Purposefully, we do not have TVs in all rooms as we encourage interaction between our guests in the common areas. We have film nights using Henry’s extensive library of eclectic DVD titles projected onto a large outside wall.
The property is around 2.7 km from Las Palmas, Paraíso Beaches, and Las Ruinas.
Recent additions to Botånica include Rudå - making the very best smash burgers.
Botånica is a hidden gem. Artist residencies draw inspiration from the rich culture of the Yucatán and nurture a dynamic conversation about the future of Tulum and continuing to create the things our hearts desire.
